Why I'm running for School BoardBy Julie HolcombCandidate for School Board Director; City of Berkeley | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I have the experience, commitment and vision to raise the level of excellence in the Berkeley public Schools.I'm running for School Board because I want to raise the level of excellence in the Berkeley Public Schools. I have been active in our public schools since my oldest child began kindergarten at Rosa Parks, serving a total of five years on School Governance Councils at elementary and middle schools, as Co-President of the Berkeley High School Development Group, as Co-Chair of the District citizen's Planning & Oversight Committee for our BSEP school parcel tax, and as a member of the Superintendent's Budget Advisory and Facilities Committees. I've owned and run a successful small business for 28 years. I have the experience, the demonstrated leadership skills, and the longtime working relationships to get things done as a member of the Berkeley School Board. My priorities are to keep a focus on continuous improvement of classroom instruction, improve student preparation for life and work beyond high school and college by expanding career-linked and technical education, and ensuring that all programs are effective, fiscally sound and sustainable. Please elect me to the Berkeley School Board on November 2. And please also vote for Measures H & I, the School Maintenance Parcel Tax and School Facilities Bond now before the voters. They both continue current commitments to educate our students in safe and sound schools, and each includes independent audits and a citizens' oversight committee. Let's continue the Berkeley tradition of working together to create a bright future for our children! |
