Political Philosophy for Jesús Armas

A few months ago, I was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Hayward Unified School District Board of Trustees. I want to continue the work I started. To do so, I now must run for election in November. For over 14 years, I served as Hayward City Manager where I was responsible for providing vital services to the community and balancing the City's budget. I was instrumental in having two new, elementary schools built in Hayward--Stonebrae and Burbank. So, why am I running? It's simple. The District is at a critical crossroad, both academically and fiscally. Academically, while a number of our schools are performing well, far too many are not. And fiscally, unless a balanced budget is adopted, the District runs the real risk of being taken over by the state. We cannot allow this to happen. The challenges facing the District are formidable. Careful and thoughtful stewardship of the District at the board level is essential if HUSD is to return to the days when it was viewed as one of the premier districts in the East Bay. Now more than ever, the District needs a school board comprised of individuals with the leadership skills and abilities to address and solve the problems confronting the District. I am running because it is critically important that we provide Hayward students a quality education. I will focus on having qualified teachers and administrators committed to helping students succeed. I will engage parents to take an active role in the education of their children. I will fight to preserve local control by making certain the district is financially solvent. Students deserve no less. Working together, we can help students achieve their potential. I would be honored to have your support to continue my work on the school board. Your help will allow voters to know I am the right choice for Hayward, and the only candidate on the ballot with the experience, dedication to the community, and leadership to make tough decisions. Remember, It's About The Students. It's about the future. I would be honored to have your vote on November 2. |
