Statement of LARRY PEGRAM, Candidate for
Member, San Jose City Council, District 9

Occupation: Non-Profit Founder                Age: 64
Education and Qualifications:
Larry Pegram understands three things. San Jose needs jobs, the budget is out of control, and we must keep our neighborhoods safe during tough economic times.
We need proven leadership. A San Jose Police Officer in the 70's, 1970's two term member of the San Jose City Council during a time of dramatic business, technology, and job growth, former Captain in the Army Reserve, Certified Financial Planner for 20+ years, and President/Co-founder of Values Advocacy Council.
Mayor Reed and the Council face a daunting task; a budget that will be impossible to balance without making some difficult decisions. Larry has proven he can make the difficult decisions required.
Larry was appointed by Mayor Reed to serve on his Transition Team in 2006. In frank discussions with Mayor Reed, Pegram understands the problems and supports Reed's suggestions to fix the budget.
Larry served on the City Council during the dramatic expansion of the technology industry. He knows that small business owner/entrepreneurs create most new jobs. We must accommodate small business opening and expanding their operations. Green Jobs must be encouraged. New jobs can be created that have no or minimal impact on the environment.
