Preserve the high-quality services that draw people to live, work, and spend their money here.
Culver City's high-quality services are one of the reasons people want to live, work, and spend their money here. While it may be expedient in the short-term to decrease government services in times of financial distress, cutting services can also exacerbate an economic decline, as falling real estate prices and retail sales hurt the City in the long-run. Diminishing services is also not what Culver City residents want. Particularly during a time of serious financial challenges, I believe City Hall needs to respect our vibrant neighborhoods, maintain our excellent police and fire departments, support our public schools and prioritize programs for our youth and seniors. We also need to maintain our local animal services. There are many ways the City can save money without cutting the services our citizens value. Culver City also has the responsibility to protect its citizens by insisting that oil drilling be conducted in the safest possible manner. We need to work with the county, the surrounding communities, regulators, and PXP to make sure that people are considered before profit.
