Public Policy & Jobs: New ideas and innovation.By Al NavaCandidate for Council Member; City of Modesto; District 2 | |

Jobs, Employment, & RevitalizationAlong with my ideas from my "Infrastructure" platform of utilizing the 'energy', 'green', & 'computer' industries, we should consider: >Transitioning to a new U.S. international economy by broadening the benefits of globalized growth. Global cities will open the economic space for new forms of business life: -Let us improve and maximize our Airport for national and international business ventures. Rapid-transit service and 'Sky-Trains' connecting the city to our airport and surrounding areas. -With growing economic ties to Asia, Modesto needs to develop its own foreign relations with other nations and major cities. >I want Modesto to be the Central Valley hub for green jobs, for sustainable industry and to capitalize on what is now globally a seismic shift toward a green economy. I envision the city attracting new green businesses that will thrive as they roll out their goods and services to other cities who are playing catch-up. Conclusion: Fearful groups may denounce this exciting & innovative plan, but the public will respond enthusiastically because we need bold leadership, not fear. We need to seek funding partners, including other governments, private donors and businesses to invest in the city's transformation. |
