Consolidation: An Idea Whose Time Has Come

Mill Valley is the missing link in the Southern Marin Fire District.
With the recent announcement that Robert Ritter, Mill Valley's director of police and fire services is retiring, the SMFPD and the City of Mill Valley have an excellent opportunity to collaborate in creating a seamless, integrated Southern Marin Fire District.

Recently Sausalito Fire Department implemented consolidation with the unincorporated districts that surround Mill Valley and make up the Southern Marin Fire Protection District.

I am firmly resolved that this is an opportunity with substantial financial benefits for the City of Mill Valley, and its' firefighters and paramedics. In the longer term it could result in significant advantages for our residents, disaster personnel and emergency response teams.

A practical and logical consideration of the needs of Mill Valley residents, and the SMFD in light of our current financial challenges should be initiated ASAP.
