I'm running for City Council because I want to build upon Emeryville's success.

From our model urban planning to our quality schools to our solid fiscal foundation in the midst of a nationwide recession, we can all be proud that Emeryville serves as a model city for the entire Bay Area.

As a Planning Commissioner and Housing Advisory Committee Member, I want to build on Emeryville's success through a greater focus on sustainable, smart planning, a continued focus on improving our schools, providing more affordable family housing and ensuring public safety.

A COMMITMENT TO EMERYVILLE, A COMMITMENT TO PUBLIC SERVICE The founder of Emeryville, Joseph Stickney Emery, and I share the same lineage, "Emery" on my mothers side. He founded Emeryville at the turn of the century and it was incorporated in 1896. The city's early years were best defined by bootlegging, brothels and stockyards.

Today, Emeryville is best know for its smart urban planning, hi tech employers, support of it arts community and improving public schools.

My commitment to Emeryville continues today. In 2003 I was appointed to the Housing Advisory Committee where I advocated for more affordable housing to ensure equal opportunities for everyone who chooses to live in Emeryville.

In 2006, I became a member of the Planning Commission where I am now serving my second term. In this position I have supported more Smart Growth development that place housing near public transit and lessen Emeryville's traffic congestion. I have also advocated for more green, sustainable buildings that shrink our carbon footprint and again place Emeryville at the forefront of environmental construction and design.

I want to continue my record of service to Emeryville by serving as your city council member, where I can best build on our successes and keep Emeryville on the right track.

BUILDING ON EMERYVILLE'S SUCCESS As a member of the City Council, I will build upon the successes of Emeryville's recent past that have situated our city well in these difficult economic times.

On the City Council, I will continue the policies I pursued on the Planning Commission.

Smarth Growth that will place more new construction closer to public transit to ease traffic congestion and provide more, safer pedestrian and bicycle options.

Sustainable building practices that meet green building standards, lessening our impact on the environment and reducing energy costs to the city and to residents.

Family housing that will encourage more families to move to Emeryville, enroll in our schools, enjoy our parks, libraries, shopping and many other amenities.

Renovating and creating community parks for all Emeryville residents. Whether you have young children that want to run and climb, you want to grow vegetables in our community garden or take a walk along the shoreline, I will make sure Emeryville serves the needs of every resident.

Ensure Emeryville is on solid financial footing by using our tax dollars wisely and completing the quality planning projects in the pipeline that will build upon our already solid tax base.

ABOUT FRANK FLORES I am a resident of the historic Bakery Lofts, which I helped to renovate. I am an Ultimate Frisbee national and world champion and primarily use my bike to get around Emeryville.

I received my undergraduate degree from Humboldt State University, where after graduating I began my career in housing at a non-profit start-up Community Development Corporation that developed hundreds of affordable housing units.

In Oakland, I continued working in the non-profit housing sector with local housing organizations like Oakland Community Housing Inc.. After receiving my Masters in Planning from UC Berkeley, I continued my housing work with a business called Madison Park, whose focus is on conversion and reuse of historic industrial buildings to low cost artist residential housing.
