Political Philosophy for Agnes Leyden

I am running for school board at this time because I feel our school district is at a crossroads: we must continue to fund our schools and maintain and possibly even expand the programs and services that nurture our children and prepare them for further success in their lives. At the same time, we must be mindful of the increasing financial burden that all members of our community, both those who have children in the schools and those who do not, continue to face. The budget adopted by the current school board for the 2009-2010 school year, on which the community will vote on May 19, was extremely difficult to construct, and the budget for the following year, 2010-2011, will be even more difficult to shape. I feel I have much to contribute as a prospective member of the school board, and have insights which can help to balance the interests of all members of our community, all the while maintaining the commitment to the education of our children. My commitment to this district and our larger community is obvious. As a former trustee, I know the time commitment and effort that is required of a school board member, and I willingly seek the position again. If elected, I would work to balance the needs of all the members of this community. This will not be an easy task, and will require cooperation and communication among all groups in our district. No one group can have all its desires met, but hopefully all groups will be able to understand that we can work together to sustain an excellent school district. I ask your support in voting for me for Hendrick Hudson School District trustee on May 19, 2009. |
