I believe that an informed community is a strong community. Fears and concerns can be easily allayed if the community is given the opportunity to participate in decision making. Lao Tzu is quoted as saying in about 1200 BC: "Fail to honor people and they fail to honor you. But, of a good leader who talks little, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say, `We did this ourselves'." The School Board system, functioning properly, is the most open form of governance around. The Board, the schools, and the residents all work together for the betterment of education and therefore for the betterment of the community. Right now those in authority need to focus on how to preserve the district's educational provisions without undue reliance on district taxpayers for funding.
