Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Dan Humfreville

Candidate for
Member of the City Council; City of Burbank

This information is provided by the candidate

I'M SURE YOU'LL AGREE THAT WE ARE TRULY BLESSED TO BE LIVING IN A CITY AS WELL MANAGED, AS WELL SERVICED, AS WELL REGARDED AS IS OUR CITY... BURBANK. BY ANY MEASURE, IT'S A GREAT TOWN.

AND GREAT TOWNS ARE NOT ACCIDENTAL. THEY ARE THE RESULT OF THE COMMITMENT AND CAREFUL PLANNING BY HUNDREDS OF DEDICATED, FORWARD-THINKING INDIVIDUALS... SOME ELECTED, MANY HIRED... TO DO THE MYRIAD OF WORK THAT IT TAKES TO MAKE AND RUN A CITY.

THE CITY COUNCIL IS A KEY ELEMENT IN THAT EQUATION... AND THE REASON I'M ADDRESSING YOU NOW.

A PRIMARY ELECTION WILL BE HELD, ENTIRELY BY MAIL-IN BALLOT, ON FEBRUARY 24TH, TO DETERMINE THE POTENTIAL MAKE-UP OF THE COUNCIL OVER THE COMING FOUR YEARS... AND I SEEK YOUR VOTE FOR ONE OF THE THREE SEATS AVAILABLE.

IT SEEMS CLEAR THAT THE LEADING ISSUES CONFRONTING BURBANK, NOT UNLIKE MOST OTHER CITIES, WILL BE ECONOMIC. THEY'RE NOT VERY EXCITING OR GLAMOROUS TO TALK ABOUT, BUT VERY CRITICAL TO OUR CITY. THE CERTAIN DIMINISHMENT OF FUNDS FROM BOTH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, AS WELL AS OUR BELEAGUERED STATE OF CALIFORNIA, ASSURES US OUR OWN $146 MILLION CITY BUDGET, AND OUR HUMAN RESOURCES, WILL BE SEVERELY TESTED. THE COUNCIL WILL BE CHARGED WITH MAKING MANY DECISIONS ABOUT THE INTENT AND DIRECTION FOR MONIES CONTROLLED AT THEIR LEVEL. THE COUNCIL'S RULINGS REGARDING DEVELOPMENT, IN PARTICULAR, WILL PLAY DIRECTLY INTO OTHER ISSUES OF IMPORTANCE TO ALL OF US... ISSUES RELATED TO TRAFFIC, PARKING, MAINTAINING AND ENHANCING OUR PHENOMENAL POLICE AND FIRE SERVICES... AND PROPERTY VALUES. THEREFORE, I SUBMIT THAT THE PERSONAL VALUES OF COUNCIL MEMBERS, AND THEIR WILLINGNESS TO MAKE HARD AND CORRECT DECISIONS, WILL BE THE KEY TO MAINTAINING THE QUALITY OF LIFE THAT WE SHARE... AND DETERMINING IN NO SMALL WAY, THE FUTURE COSTS THAT WE'LL BARE.

I COME TO THIS TASK AS A LONG-TIME VOLUNTEER WITH SEVERAL BOARDS AND COMMITTEES WORKING TO KEEP BURBANK THE CITY WE HAPPILY CALL HOME.

IT HAS BEEN MY PRIVILEGE TO BE APPOINTED TWICE BY COUNCIL TO FULFILL TERMS ON THE PLANNING BOARD, AS WELL AS THE TRAFFIC & TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE. OTHER VOLUNTEER COMMITMENTS SURROUND MY ONGOING ASSOCIATION WITH THE VERDUGO HILLS COUNCIL OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, AS CHAIRMAN OF THE ADVANCEMENT COMMITTEE. I AM CURRENTLY BOARD CHAIRMAN FOR BCR, A LOCAL SERVICE FACILITY FOR INDIVIDUALS AFFLICTED WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. AND I HOLD A SEAT ON BOTH THE SALVATION ARMY BOARD AND THE YMCA FINANCE COMMITTEE IN ASSISTING THEIR PROGRAMS.

THERE IS A WIDE CHOICE AND RANGE OF POSITIONS TO CONSIDER IN THIS ELECTION. I WELCOME YOUR QUESTIONS, YOUR PERSONAL FEEDBACK AND ANY OTHER RESPONSES YOU CARE TO SHARE. I HOPE TO MEET YOU DURING MY WALKS... AND YOU MAY REACH ME THROUGH MY PERSONAL WEBSITE, DETAILING THE WIDER BODY OF MY OWN PROPOSALS... AT BURBANKDAN.COM. I INVITE YOUR REVIEW... AND I HUMBLY SEEK YOUR VOTE.
