Assemblywoman Amy Paulin is now serving her fourth term as representative of the 88th New York State Assembly District, having been first elected in November, 2000. A full time legislator, Amy is a strong advocate for the people of the 88th district, which includes Scarsdale, Eastchester, Tuckahoe, Bronxville, Pelham, Pelham Manor, and parts of New Rochelle and White Plains. She is one of the Legislature's most active members, sponsoring 18 bills that were passed in both houses during the past year, which puts her in the top 5% percent of Assembly members. Amy believes her most important accomplishments of the current term were increasing aid to public schools to help keep property taxes down, passing significant legislation to help victims of domestic violence and child abuse, and working to make government more transparent. Assemblywoman Paulin was also instrumental in banning smoking in college dormitories to eliminate the adverse health effects of second hand smoke, and fighting to allow licensed pharmacists to administer flu and pneumonia shots to adults to make healthcare more accessible. The former Director of My Sisters' Place, a non-profit agency which assists victims of domestic violence, Amy Paulin has long been an advocate for the needs of women and children. She helped found the Westchester Domestic Violence Council and obtained vital funding for day care and neighborhood health centers. She has been active on the environment, human rights, and community affairs. Assemblywoman Paulin currently serves on the Assembly's Standing Committees on Children and Families, Education, Higher Education and Health, and is the Chair of the Libraries and Education Technology Committee. Amy Paulin was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She is a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany and holds a Master's degree and has completed doctoral course work in Criminal Justice from SUNY-Albany. Assemblywoman Paulin resides in Scarsdale with her husband, Ira Schuman, and their three children. |
