Full Biography for Steve Young

"This election, like never before is about the future of working class America," says Steve Young, democratic candidate for CA-48 Congressional District. "Unions are under assault by those who want to turn the clock back on the rights of working families." Steve Young grew up in a working class family, then spent twenty-eight years as a civil justice attorney in Orange County working tirelessly for those forgotten by the system. In more than 125 jury trials, Steve never represented a bank, an insurance company, or a large corporation. His typical client is the lone person facing overwhelming odds. Recently Steve spent six months in a prevailing wage trial on behalf of 33 electricians whose employer had cheated them out of wages and benefits. "You have to chose the right, let the consequences follow," said Steve when asked about the settlement he negotiated that was 4 times the $570,000 verdict he obtained from a Los Angeles jury. Steve was born in Southern California and raised in Utah in a working family. He learned the value of hard work and community -- his mother was a nurse, his father worked in the aerospace industry, one Grandfather was president of a coal miners' local, and the other worked as a conductor on the railroad. Steve put himself through college and law school. Steve's commitment to justice and his dedication to the people of his community make him a strong, clear voice for all residents of California's 48th District. When asked why he is stepping out of law to run for congress, Steve says, "I want our children to grow up in an America coming together, not falling apart." He has four children and five grandchildren. He is married to Solange, also an attorney. |
