Jeff believes that measures to reduce class size, provide sustainable funding to all school districts, measuring outcomes while consolidating mandates and moving towards a seamless path of curriculum from kindergarten to the University level should all be priorities. No Child Left Behind should be reworked and/or replaced with a system that attains realistic measurements for rural education that increases educational opportunities for all students.Jeff Morris is concerned with how we are developing our future citizens and leaders of Northern California. With increasing requirements and reduced funding, our public school system, especially in rural Northern California, is struggling and the children within that system are paying the price. Rural schools serve over 40 percent of our nations students, but receive only 22 percent of federal education funding. (NEA - 2007). The Secure Roads and Schools legislation that compensates forested counties for acquisition of the National Forest system has been on an uncertain path for re-authorization. Jeff's recent involvement is moving the discussion forward with the goal of a comprehensive and long term strategy so that funding for forested county schools and transportation can be based on more reliable funding instead of year to year legislative struggles. In order to develop a truly successful economy for Northern California, Jeff believes that a renewed focus on math, science, the arts and vocational training are necessary within our educational system. Operationally Jeff believes that measures to reduce class size, provide sustainable funding to all school districts, measuring outcomes while consolidating mandates and moving towards a seamless path of curriculum from kindergarten to the University level should all be priorities. No Child Left Behind should be reworked and/or replaced with a system that attains realistic measurements for rural education that increases educational opportunities for all students. Jeff believes that these measures will allow teachers to be more effective in addition to enabling our schools to expand the delivery of a comprehensive and meaningful educational experience to our children. |
