Candidate for
Member of the State Assembly; District 78

Chula Vista City Councilman John McCann is a candidate for San Diego's 78th Assembly District. McCann was first elected to the Chula Vista City Council in 2002, and was re-elected in November, 2006. As a Councilman, John has built a reputation of being an independent government reformer willing to break ranks with the status-quo by demanding accountability from bureaucrats and politicians.

Councilman McCann has a solid record of always putting citizen's interests ahead of Special Interests. He supported balancing the budget, without raising taxes because he believes government needs to operate more like our families do: paying for what we absolutely need first, and using what is left over to save or buy what we may want. He voted to put law enforcement, roads, and parks first, not last.

John McCann is a small businessman, working in the local technology industry. He opposes the over-regulation, over-taxation, and over litigation that are driving jobs out of California with our tax base under one arm, and our jobs under the other. He believes that, at bare minimum, government needs to simplify the life of small business owners who create the overwhelming number of jobs in our state and lift the burdens imposed on them.

Education has always been a priority for John McCann. A Chula Vista native, he attended local public elementary and high schools. He graduated from San Diego State University with Bachelors and Masters degrees in economics. Later, he attended night school at UC San Diego to earn an adult school teaching credential. John has been a teacher for a number of years - until recently he taught Computer Science at Southwestern College.

John McCann is a 3rd generation Navy Officer. Following in his family footsteps, he enlisted in the United States Navy Reserve, where he continues to serve today as a Lieutenant.

John McCann and his wife, Myssie, live in Chula Vista with their four children and the family dog. In their spare time, the McCann family enjoys the outdoors, church, and Chargers football.
