1. What does California need to do to address the current budget crisis?
California must determine funding priorities that will not be subjugated to budget cuts and reallocate unnecessary spending to fully fund these priorities. The California Legislature must also find creative ways to generate new sources of revenue without increasing taxes for California residents. I would explore increasing revenue from multi-billion dollar corporations that conduct business in California and avoid increasing taxation on small business owners and individuals.2. What should the state's priorities be for K-12 education? For the Community College System?
I believe that K-12 and higher education budgets should be protected as a funding priority and be fully funded. I also support California's Master Plan for Higher Education and understand how the critical importance the different tiers of education creates a educated and more prepared workforce.3. What measures would you support to address California's water needs?
All of California must realize that water is a limited resource which is costly to transport and produce at potable levels. Conservation would be the first step to address the decreasing water supply. A master plan needs to be developed that would incorporate sustainable resources.4. What should the Legislature be doing to address the needs of Californians without health insurance?
Healthcare should also be a protected funding priority that should be fully funded. I support SB 840 and believe the bill would increase the availability of affordable healthcare to every Californian and will make California a leader in containing rising healthcare expenditures while improving the quality of healthcare. SB 840 will maintain the competitive mix of public and private providers and give Californians the freedom of choice in healthcare coverage.
