Policy Priorities - A Short List of Critical Issues

Grey is focused on a range of policy areas and initiatives that will help families in our state and region.

Among Grey's top priorities when elected:

Protect Families from Foreclosure + Grey is adamant that an empty, foreclosed home is more costly than temporarily supporting a family's efforts to refinance and maintain home ownership. It is essential that we prevent foreclosures + for families, for our communities, and for our economy. Grey will fight to establish new laws relating to lending and borrowing; create a cool-off period to ensure we keep as many families as possible in homes and loans they can afford; and create new forms of assistance for families being impacted by predatory lending.

Economic Growth - As a small business owner, Grey will fight the heavy impact of foreclosures on our regional economy, as well as work to create economic incentive zones for technology, environmental, and alternative energy companies throughout the District. Small and medium-sized businesses make up the backbone of our economy, and Grey will work hard to ensure that businesses have the tools and support they need to thrive.

Climate Change and Energy Conservation. Grey is an advocate for taking aggressive steps to fight climate change while retooling our economy to compete in a resource-strapped century. Grey has advocated for new standards relating to carbon emissions, cap-and-trade systems, higher MPG ratings, energy consuption, building codes, etc. This is a critical area and Grey will continue to advocate for new investment and effort in ensuring that our economy has the resources and investment needed to become more "green".

Immigration - Grey has pledged to create sensible policies to address illegal immigration that protect families and businesses while upholding the law. Grey has advocated for immediate deportation hearings for illegal immigrants convicted of crimes; denying bail to illegal immigrants who have been arrested; fines for businesses that knowingly hire illegal immigrants; and create programs designed to ensure immigration reform has a minimal impact on businesses and families.

Healthcare - Grey will work to create access to healthcare for the thousands of people within District 66 that do not currently have access. He will also work to create more healthcare facilities throughout District 66, as well as low-income prevention-oriented healthcare clinics. Grey will also fight hard to make healthcare more affordable. Grey will also focus on community-oriented programs and health education efforts throughout the District and State.

Education - Grey will fight to beat back the troubling statistic that high school graduates in District 66 are over 20% less likely to go to college that their peers throughout California. Grey will work to increase state resources for pre-Kindergarten programs that have proven to have a dramatically positive impact on a student's success throughout her or his education and help solidify resources for California's community college system. He will also work to strengthen mid-career, technical, and vocational training programs available to our workforce.

Traffic - Grey will work with regional authorities, cities, counties, and the state to address crippling traffic and deteriorating infrastructure throughout District 66. He has proposed a "Green Pass" system for the Inland Empire by creating incentives for alternate drive times, toll roads, and the establishment of a light-rail system between Riverside and San Diego.

Fire Prevention and Regional Emergency Response - Given the devastating impact that the recent fires had on District 66 and the region, Grey will work to establish stronger fire prevention and fire response capabilities across departmental, agency, and governmental lines. He will use his experience in interagency coordination and operations to bring together new capabilities and coordination responsibilities to more effectively address regional fire (and other) emergencies.

Fight the Liberty Quarry - The potential quarry site, as proposed, would endanger the health of over 100,000 people in the Temecula Valley, disturb sensitive ecological habitats, have a significant impact on the local wine industry, impact the Santa Margarita River, and increase traffic north and south along the 15 corridor. This isn't about preventing free enterprise. This is about protecting families and the economy of our region.
