1. What, if anything, do you believe the federal government should do to control global climate change?
I think we should recognize that there has always been climate change throughout history. When I was young, scientists were predicting a new ice age. Now, it's global warming. It's most likely that solar activity is the prime cause of climate change. There is not much we can do about that. A lot of the global warming proposals would increase government control over our lives without doing much to help our planet. While I don't think we should actively try to damage the planet, I don't see any proposals out there as being very helpful.2. What should the federal government do, if anything, to ensure that every American has health coverage?
Government is too involved in the health care issue. I believe in the deregulation of the health care industry. We should be able to select the type of coverage we want, from whatever company in whatever state we want. We don't need government mandates on what the policies should include. People should look into health insurance policies that offer catastrophic coverage only (at lower rates) and regular policies with high deductibles (also at lower rates). I also favor Health Savings Accounts, where individuals can put aside some of their income (tax-free, like IRA's)for future health care expenses (or to pay the high deductibles mentioned above). I am absolutely opposed to any national health care plan.3. What, if anything, should the federal government do about immigration?
It should be easier to immigrate to this country legally. Right now, a lot of people can't do that, so they come illegally. It should be easier for people to come here to work and be able to cross the border back and forth to go to their homes. We should be welcoming people who want to come here and work hard and become Americans. I am opposed to employer sanctions. Business owners are already unpaid tax collectors for the government; they shouldn't have to be unpaid immigration officers as well.
