1. What does California need to do to address the current budget crisis?
Answer from John P. MacMurray:
Look to other sources of revenue, like a business would. Impose an extraction fee for oil (California is the only state without one). Step up collections on undeclared income, unpaid fees, and other revenue losses to the state.
2. What should the state's priorities be for K-12 education? For the Community College System?
Answer from John P. MacMurray:
Adequate funding. Public K-12 education pays back $7.00 to the community for every dollar invested. Add $3.00 to this for a Community College degree. We are shortchanging ourselves by not training our future community and buiness leaders.
3. What measures would you support to address California's water needs?
Answer from John P. MacMurray:
Firstoff, adequately study needs and resources.
4. What should the Legislature be doing to address the needs of Californians without health insurance?
Answer from John P. MacMurray:
Work with existing providers to ensure an adequate, portable insurance system
