Gary Nemeth was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 9, 1950. He served four years in the U. S. Navy, in the Western Pacific, including Vietnam and on board the USS Enterprise with Admiral Cooper's Staff working as a Photographic Intelligenceman. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he moved to San Luis Obispo County in 1973. A member of the San Luis Obispo Sheriffs Department, he served as a Deputy Sheriff from 1974 until 1977. While a Deputy Sheriff, he performed the duties of a Reserve Deputy Training Officer. He joined the San Luis Obispo Police Department in 1977 and served as a Patrol Officer, Detective, Traffic Officer, Motorcycle Officer and Motorcycle Training Instructor, Field Training Officer, Reserve and Explorer Training Officer, D.A.R.E. Officer, School Resource Officer and Crisis Negotiator. He retired due to an injury received on duty, after a total Law Enforcement career spanning 30 years. In 1981 he met his wife Sandra (Sammy) and they married eight months later. In 1984 they had a baby girl Kelly. Kelly is now married to Brandon, a U.S. Marine and they live in San Diego. The Nemeths have resided in Paso Robles for the past 18 years and in San Luis Obispo County for 31 years. Besides serving on the Paso Robles City Council since 2000 and four of those years as Mayor Pro Tem (elected by unanimous Council vote), he has also served on the Planning Commission for nine years, one year as vice chairman and one year as chairman.
