We're in trouble
The financial situation for Atascadero has been declared a "crisis" by Dr. Watkins, from UCSB, in his annual report on the status of Atascadero. The city admits that it will have to spend $1.2 million this year and $2.3 million next year from the reserve accounts. My question is what is going to happen in years 3-4 and 5? The financial officer for the City says we may make it through year 3. There is no light at the end of the tunnel for an equal amount of revenue to come in to balance the budget yet alone replenish the reserve accounts.
I will bring my 30+ years of business experience and the courage to the council and take the necessary measure that are required to balance the city"s budget. I'm use to saving money and not spending it. Tough decisions will have to be made and all of us will have to work together to achieve this goal.
