Cathy Duncan Biography

As a third generation (paternal) Californian, I was born in Torrance and grew up in northern California. I have two children and one grandson. My daughter is a teacher in the Bay Area, she is married with a four year old son(my grandson), my 15 year old son is finishing high school in San Luis Obispo where we have lived since 1998. I have experience working as a government board member in Montery County, and in a non-profit educational foundation as treasurer. I was a CASA volunteer for one year. I have witnessed budget cuts for the last 16 years, some are made to work with the additions of educational foundations, and some drastically reduce the ability to receive a free, quality education for all children.

My mother and father both worked in the school district in Northern California for over 20 years, my dad teaching math and my mother working as a reading specialist and aide. My father served on the board of trustees for the Healdsburg Unified School District.

I have worked in administrative assistant positions and as a substitute teacher. As a mother of two and grandmother of one I will fight for ongoing excellence in education.
