Why I'm Running: I have the leadership and commitment to ensure affordable, accessible education that is both state of the art and responsive to changing community needs. I am dedicated to the success of Cabrillo's outreach to non-traditional students, support for seamless transfer to four year colleges, excellence in building a highly skilled workforce and access to lifelong learning opportunities.

Background Our community deserves excellence in education. As the Executive Director of First 5 Santa Cruz County and former Executive Director of CASA, Susan has worked to strengthen our community, promote education, and ensure equity and access for all. Her understanding of the changing education and workforce needs of Mid County is needed as Cabrillo conducts its master planning, continues to grow its Watsonville and Scotts Valley campuses, and creates state of the art technology programs. Throughout her 17 years in Santa Cruz County, she has participated in numerous efforts to provide and improve services for children, families, and students. She has worked to strengthen our county as a parent, neighbor, professional, and volunteer. She has been active in the Soquel High Music Foundation and Humanities Academy; a member of the Child Welfare Systems improvement planning committee, appointed to the Mental Health Services Act steering committee, a director of the Youth Resource Bank, the Program Chair for the First 5 Association and a member of the board of directors of the California CASA Association.

Susan has the proven leadership and community commitment, as well as experience in listening and responding to community needs, managing multi-million dollar budgets, long-term financial and strategic planning and human services, to benefit Cabrillo College as a member of the governing board. California's community colleges provide a bridge to success. Cabrillo is a treasure; Susan True will protect that treasure. Position As your Trustee, Susan will ensure maximum impact of our educational dollars by promoting:

  • Opportunity through career programs to develop a workforce with skills responsive to our local economy and changing needs;
  • Improved access for non-traditional college students;
  • Guidance and coursework that lead to student transfer to four-year colleges; and
  • Enrichment through lifelong learning opportunities for all county residents.
