The California State budget crisis is drastically impacting BUSD since we are one of the lowest revenue limit district in Santa Clara County.
As a long time active member of the California School Board Association (CSBA) I had the opportunity to meet and lobby our legislators relative to school funding. We continue to pressure the legislators to maintain school funding guaranteed by Proposition 98. As a BUSD Board member I understand the complexily of allocating the general and categorical funds that we receive from the State and Federal government. Our annual adopted budget defines our educational program priorities for the entire school year. With the current economic and State budget crisis, it is very important for a school board member to understand how funds are allocated for various educational programs and ensure that the student impact of the budget
shortfall is minimized. It is vitally important that our staff, parents and the community-at-large are fully aware of the issues our District faces during this difficult times. As the most senior board member in Berryessa, I been through several budget problems in the past and I understand and have the experience in dealing with them. I plan to continue to provide the community leadership in this regard.
