2008-2012: "TO DO" LIST
Keep Reducing Homelessness
- Support Santa Monica's programs that are moving chronically homeless into housing
- Fill all three designated buildings at the West LA VA with supportive housing for homeless vets
- Work harder with state and local leaders to build consensus for regional solutions
- Move remaining park feeding programs inside
Control Development and Traffic
- Preserve Santa Monica's low-scale character by opposing the tall buildings being proposed
- Speed up the traffic-signal synchronization. Residents have been asking for this for 20 years.
Make Sure the Bay Clean-Up Moves Fast
- Push to complete pier storm drain improvements before Memorial Day 2009
- Keep pressure on the City to have Measure V projects ready to start as soon as funds come in
Support Our Public Schools
- Increase next year's city grant to the schools if possible
- Study Santa Monica High School's re-design to see how it could work with our Civic Center re-design
Protect People's Homes
- In these economically uncertain times, make sure the City aggressively defends any tenant who is harassed or wrongfully evicted
Maintain Superior Police and Fire Service
- Public safety is the City's first priority
Create and Maintain Parks
- Get the City moving to turn the Fisher Lumber site into parkland. We bought it 4 years ago and it's still closed!
- Buy more parkland
Increase Safety at Santa Monica Airport
- Keep fighting until the FAA agrees to make the surrounding neighborhoods safe
