The Delano Joint Union High School District has made dramatic improvements over the last four years (ex: getting out of program improvement!), but there is so much more to accomplish.
My name is Arnold Wayne Morrison, and I am seeking a second term on the governing board of the Delano Joint Union High School District. I am currently employed by the Delano Union Elementary School District as an instrumental music teacher and am currently in my 30th year with this wonderful job.
During my tenure as a board member, the Delano Joint Union High School District has accomplished a great deal. Our biggest accomplishment was getting the District out of program improvement status in 2006. Only 4% of the high school districts statewide were able to accomplish this feat. We have also made dramatic improvements in test scores, graduation rate, and attendance. This could not have been done without the team effort of District personnel, parents, and students - which also includes vision and insight from the Board of Trustees.
With that being said, there is so much more that needs to be done in order to continue this wave of success.
I have been a community volunteer since I came to Delano in the late 70's. I have been president of the Delano Kiwanis for three terms, was chosen as Educator of the Year by the Delano Youth Foundation in 1999 and was also selected Teacher of the Year by the staff at Albany Park Elementary School in 1997. In addition, I was chosen as Educator of the Year by the Delano Chamber of Commerce in 1999 and Grand Marshal of the annual Philippine Weekend in 2001.
My campaign theme is the same as it was four years ago. Plain and simple, STUDENTS FIRST.
As a veteran teacher myself and an advocate for the youth of Delano, I always ask myself the question: "Is this what's best for the students?" This comes before every decision I make on the board.
To be perfectly honest, I am not a politician. When you see me in a local parade, I won't be waving from a car. Instead I will be marching down the street with my students. I am hoping I can count on your support as I seek another term on the board to make a difference in the quality of education for the students in Delano, Earlimart, and Richgrove. I hope that you will consider voting for me, Arnold Wayne Morrison, on November 4th. Thank you very much!
