Political Philosophy for Michael J. Machi
Candidate for |
As your Council member, I will continue working toward: Improving and expanding Arcata's public safety capabilities by prioritizing the funding of a fully staffed Police Department which includes 2 Park Rangers to protect our Community Forest and parks, and Plaza, Traffic and School Resources Officers; by creating officer and recruitment and retentions bonuses, and by developing a Valley West police sub-station. Maintaining City streets, sidewalks and trails by developing self-help funding mechanisms and 5-year budget and capital improvement planning; by implementing Arcata's Bike-Ped and Pavement Management Master Plans; and by forming regional partnerships to develop connective trails to the Hammond and Annie & Mary and Humboldt Bay Trails. Protecting Arcata's quality of life by strongly supporting Arcata's General Plan 2020 vision of slow, well- planned development; preservation and acquisition of agricultural land, wetlands, and open space; economic sustainability; and partnering with Humboldt State University to share in their expertise. As a council member, I listen respectfully to all viewpoints and work hard to make fact-based decisions. I wish to continue on as a voice of moderation, working to find common ground amongst differing views. Thank you for your vote on November 4th. |
