Ferry Service to Antioch and the Bay AreaBy Robert "Bob" KalafateCandidate for Treasurer; City of Antioch | |

The recent change to the Water EMERGENCY Transit Authority, is indicative of smart economic planning needed to prepare for a major disruption in our Bay Area communityIt would be extremely unwise for our lawmakers to ignore the obvious havoc to the transit system that another Bay Area earthquake will bring. It is my hope that this recent renaming of this agency just last month to WETA will allow for a new stream of federal dollars to become available to fast track this vital transportation project. "<http://www.watertransit.org>" I support efforts of the Bay Area Water Transportation Authority to bring the Ferry to Downtown Antioch. This would be a direct benefit to merchants in Rivertown, and our City will gain increased revenue from the additional business activity from commuters using the ferries. In addition to revenue growth, property values will likely increase with recognition that Antioch to San Francisco becomes a 95 minute ferry commute along the beautiful bay, river and Delta. My two visits to Sydney, Australia in the last six years proved to me the comfort and efficiency of this alternative transportation to relax and avoid high gas prices, bumper-to-bumper traffic, bridge and parking tolls. Because time is money. |
