Support Downtown BusinessBy Robert "Bob" KalafateCandidate for Treasurer; City of Antioch | |

Reduce congestion and stimulate business growth downtown by lobbying Antioch to San Francisco Ferry serviceTime is Money I understand the difficulty with our challenging economic times. Revenues have declined and pocketbooks are `tight'. Antioch must work to attract new jobs and business. Business owners that choose to operate in the heart of town, work in a challenging environment even in the best of times. The Rivertown area, can prove jobs plus alleviate congestion on Highway 4. I support efforts with the Bay Area Water Transportation Authority to bring the Ferry to Downtown Antioch. This would not only be a direct benefit to the merchants in Rivertown, but the City will gain increased revenue due to the additional business from commuters using the ferries. Additional to revenue growth, property values will likely increase with recognition that Antioch to San Francisco becomes a 95 minute ferry commute along the beautiful bay, river and Delta. Because time is money. Antioch `Rivertown' will be appreciated by more residents and visitors when they have an opportunity to get out on the river. These visit would `spur' added retail and restaurants business. Our children would gain more appreciation for the Delta and how it makes our region unique. I support cooperation to bring the Ferry to the Antioch `Rivertown' with the WTA now renamed the WETA to. |
