Growth and Protecting Danville's Open Space and Urban Limit Line

By Candace J. (Kay) Andersen

Candidate for Council Member; Town of Danville

This information is provided by the candidate
Mayor Andersen supports the voter approved Urban Limit Line. She voted to toughen Danville's hillside ordinance to ensure that scenic ridgelines and open space are protected.
  • Danville is approximately 94% built out and Mayor Andersen is not willing to expand our borders to accommodate additional growth. She supports the Urban Limit Line approved by voters in 2004. As the only candidate or councilmember living in East Danville, she experiences daily the frustration of traffic and congestion caused by too rapid growth on our borders. Any new development impacting Danville must be required to fully mitigate its effect on Danville before it is allowed to proceed.

  • Mayor Andersen is working with officials in San Ramon to ensure that any decision they make to bring the Tassajara Valley into their sphere of influence or eventually annex it into their city, will have minimal impact on Danville. She will continue to oppose any large-scale development in the Tassajara Valley. An appropriate balance must be reached between a property owner's rights and the negative impact additional growth will have on Danville and the entire Tri-Valley community affected by this loss of agricultural land and open space.

  • Mayor Andersen supports quality infill projects (both residential and commercial) to enhance our community. Any projects approved must be compatible with our small-town atmosphere and in character with their existing neighborhoods. She believes that we need to continue to maintain our open space and restrict hillside development. This year she, along with her fellow council members tightened Danville's Hillside Ordinance, which will make it more difficult to build on a scenic ridgeline.

  • It is essential that Danville continue to take a leadership role and work cooperatively with the County and other cities and agencies in identifying where there will be regional growth in transportation, housing and employment. This collaboration needs to be balanced with the local control each jurisdiction has the right to assert over its own planning and future.
