Reducing the High School Drop Out RateBy Morgan Mack-RoseCandidate for Board Member; San Leandro Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Over the next four years It is expected that one in five high school aged students in our District will drop out of High School. We can and must do better. We must immediately engage our High School students by expanding our successful 'academy' models to help prepare them for careers in high demand fields such as health care, technology and trades. Helping our students obtain internships and apprenticeships will give them an immediate and tangible reason to stay in school, rather than drop out. But, we must also focus on early intervention beginning in pre-K. Because the longer we wait to help a child falling behind, the lower the chances that child will ever catch up, I will also call for summer school programs to be expanded and made more accessible to children throughout the District. |
