  • Safety and Security

Safety in schools is a huge concern for parents. It is an issue that I take extremely seriously, and it is my number one priority. One of the reasons I campaigned for "Yes on bond measure I" was to have security cameras installed in all HUSD schools. This is a great start but more will need to be done. I want to put together a team of local behavioral specialists, parents, teachers and students to promote a policy of: Zero tolerance for aggressive physical behavior, bullying and name-calling. This team can also help to identify resources and promote programs that provide positive role-modeling and self-esteem for all our students.

  • Enriched and Challenging Education

Working within the mandated curriculum set by state standards, the District should seek to take the lead in innovative elective programs. Comparing the programs offered by our neighboring districts and measuring where improvements can be made and then implementing those changes. Bring together professionals to map out a plan where businesses can help to enrich academic experience through apprenticeship or training programs that our students can use in real life. HUSD has a history of innovative educational technique administered within the mandated law. Let's keep innovation in the HUSD to the benefit of our students, teachers, parents, and community.

  • Financial Relief and Stability

As a member of the Budget Advisory Task Force, I learned first hand the complexity of establishing a budget. The importance of maintaining financial stability was greatly aided this year by the excellent borrowing rate our District received. This was evident with the rate given to bonds surrounding the passage of Measure I. Investing in the educational system pays dividends to the entire community. Some benefits to a quality education system are security, increased property values and quality of life. I believe by building an educational partnership with our local businesses, government, our community, our students and parents in HUSD will be able to increase services, remain financially stable, and be a model for others.
