Gary has been active in the California Democratic Party since the age of 12 as a young democrat in the Whittier Area. He has volunteered on various campaigns since that young age like Hilda Solis for Rio Hondo College and Assembly, Art Torres for Senate, Richard Alatorre for City Council, Esteban Torres for Congress, Dukakis for President, Grace Napolitano for Congress, and many others.

Gary founded and is still active in the Rio Hondo College Democrats where he serves as a Governing Board Member.

Gary's family has been in the 56th Assembly District since 1856 and life long democrats.
