Full Biography for Marc Alain Chomel

I am a first generation American born to European parents, and was raised with a strong set of family values and an appreciation for ethics and hard work. As a result of those attributes, I became a prosecuting attorney in two states, and have prosecuted a number of violent criminal offenders, ten of which had committed murder. I became a supervisor of prosecutors in 2001, and supervised Los Angeles Deputy district attorneys in a number of roles, from juvenile prosecution in South Central Los Angeles to felony trials and drug court in Central Operations and the Inglewood Adult Area Office. I believe more time should be served by serious offenders and currently support the three strikes law if practiced in a balanced and rational manner, with an emphasis on the offender's likelihood to commit another serious crime. However, I believe many drug offenses shoud be diverted into effective rehabilation programs to eliminate the drain on judicial resources. I believe that our system of justice needs to be more responsive to the needs of victims, jurors and witnesses, and that would be a central objective of my role as a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge. |
