Personal Information

  • Married with three children (Aaron, 20, Keith, 17, and Greg, 13).
  • Mother of children currently attending the Middle School and the High School.
  • All three children have had their entire K-12 education in the Norwood City Schools.
  • PTA member for 14 years, served as co-treasurer for Sharpsburg Elementary School for one year.
  • As a journalist, covered the City of Norwood, including Norwood City Schools, for the Norwood Enterprise and the Norwood Times for several years. Also covered Madeira School Board and Mariemont School Board.

  • Currently active in Norwood Association for Gifted Education (Just finished a term as president of that organization) and Norwood Band Boosters

Professional and Applied Experiences

Dates Position Description August 2003-Present Assistant Professor, Early Childhood Education, Wilmington College, Cincinnati Eastgate Branch Campus

Administer early childhood program for branch campus, teach courses and supervise field and student teaching experiences in a program that prepares junior and senior students entering Wilmington with their two-year associate degrees in early childhood education to become K-3 early childhood teachers in the public school system.

September, 2002 + August, 2003 Evaluation Associate/Editor, Evaluation Services Center, College of Education, University of Cincinnati Membership on the K-12/Community Research Team, which entailed contributing to project work through specific tasks determined by the team, assuming leadership responsibilities for one or more projects as assigned by team leader; membership on the Deliverables Support Team as an editor, which entailed supporting project team members from all center research teams in the preparation of reports and other deliverables. Created a style manual for the Evaluation Services Center to guide evaluation associates in the production of deliverables. In conjunction with University Publications, created a public relations package for the Evaluations Services Center, which included editing, writing, and maintenance of a newsletter, a brochure, and a website. The packages were published and distributed by April, 2003.

1999-2003 Director, Grace Center for English Language and Literacy, Norwood, OH

Administered and taught in a free, drop-in English language center that serves recent immigrants and long-term visitors to the Cincinnati area who do not speak English.

1998-2003 ESL Family Advocate, Evenstart Program, Norwood City Schools

Advocated for ESL students and their families in the Norwood City School System. Focus was on students in grades K-3.
2000-2002 Grant Coordinator, Title VII Professional Development Grant, College of Education, Division of Teacher Education, Teaching English as a Second Language Department, University of Cincinnati Worked closely with an evaluation coordinator and the grant PI to conduct research for the goal of the Consortium's continued assessment and improvement; acted as a liaison between the University of Cincinnati, Hamilton County Educational Services, and the surrounding counties and school districts and relevant agencies; organized created and conducted inservice workshops for mainstream and ESL personnel; organized district and county meetings and assisted in networking among ESL students, parents and personnel; designed and maintained a webpage for the Consortium; produced and distributed a quarterly newsletter for area ESL personnel; maintained an ESL Resource Center for area personnel.

Summer 2001 Adjunct Instructor, University of Cincinnati Set up and implemented a practicum on a service learning model, which enabled teacher candidates for TESOL endorsement to apply what they had learned in university classrooms to the actual teaching of language minority students in a free, summer family literacy program offered for the region. The program, held at Norwood High School, was recognized by the mayor for services rendered in a city park.
