Temple City Unified School District

By Rachel L. Lasota

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Temple City Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Our District is a great place for students to learn and achieve great strides in education.
Our district has proven to be a leader in academics state wide. Many parents are happy here, and do not realize that there is need for improvement in several areas. I believe that our district should have an open door policy of communication for those it serves. The Board of Education is a service center to the community, the staff, parents and students.

Over the last several years, the District's communication has been on a need to know basis, not always providing full disclosure. When items have been brought before the Board there is little consideration given to those decisions will affect, and there are nor request for input.

Furthermore, our District has been aware that the infrastructure of multiple buildings is aged and not able to fully accomodate our current student population, as well as current technology. We need to explore funding options to enhance our district's buildings to assure safety for our students and staff.

I am not politician. I am an involved parent who has never been afraid to ask the questions that need to be asked, and to look into items objectively before making a conclusion. I believe that communication is the key to success! If our district cannot effectively communicate with those it serves, then how can our children be learning "Communication?"
