About Shilen

Shilen grew up in Anaheim Hills , California , in a home with his parents and siblings who emigrated from Kenya , East Africa. During college, he interned for former California State Senator Jack O'Connell where he learned how government could be a powerful resource to find solutions to meet the needs of local businesses and residents. After college, Shilen moved to the Bay Area where he worked for the City of Richmond to improve Richmond 's quality of life, especially low-income communities by working to improve the local schools and reaching out to the private sector to increase local job opportunities. Currently, Shilen is an environmental consultant working with cities to develop infrastructure investment projects that manage municipal growth and development that protects the environment.

Shilen and his wife Kiran reside in Bay Street. Shilen's ideas for improving Emeryville neighborhoods come from his extensive public service experience.

Shilen graduated from the University of California , Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Economics.
