LETITIA ELISABETH PEPPER It is un-American to use eminent domain to take property from unwilling owners to benefit a few private developers. Whole states and many California cities have stopped using eminent domain for redevelopment. Until the City of Riverside also stops using eminent domain for redevelopment, none of us — owners, renters, landlords, tenants, businesses, employees, or churches – can own private property in peace. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English and home economics, and taught junior high. I returned to school at Hastings College of the Law, passed the Bar, and practiced business and public law. I also worked for state and federal courts. I’ve been a Riverside resident for 25 years, and homeowner and landlord for 20 years. I live in the University Highlands neighborhood. I founded Highland Neighborhood Watch and co-chaired the University Neighborhood Association. I’ve always worked to preserve parks and improve traffic. I support Prop. R and Measure C, our growth control laws. As your Council Member, I’ll treat the public with respect, encourage public participation, demand open, democratic government, and vigorously advocate for local residents and businesses, not special outside interests. Please call me at 275-9480 or e-mailme at letitiapepper@cs.com. Eminent domain comments, info: http://www.riversidelandgrab.com. |
