Biography: Al Austin first moved to Long Beach with his family in 1979, he later attended Long Beach City College and then went on to work for McDonell Douglas and Boeing. Al received his Bachelors of Science at the University of La Verne. He is currently studying for his Masters in Public Administration at Cal State University, Long Beach while he works as a negotiator for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. Austin has worked in the field of public service, representation and professional advocacy for the past fifteen (15) years. As a top aide to State Senator Kevin Murray, Austin worked with local government, labor, community based organizations and to improve local neighborhoods and solve complex community problems. As a top representative for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Austin works to resolve complex labor/management and public policy issues and has well established relationships with area elected officials, community organizations and neighborhood leaders. For 14 years, Austin worked at the McDonell Douglas (later Boeing) commercial aircraft plant in Long Beach, becoming the third generation in his family to be a UAW worker. While there, he learned the value of quality, high paying jobs to our city's economy. Austin now works for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, and lives in Long Beach with his wife Daysha and their three children. |
