Born and raised in District 1, Jacque is a product of our community and public school system. She attended Cleveland Elementary, Wilson Middle, and Pasadena City College before graduating from John Muir High School. She is an individual who has built a reputation for being a leader and getting results. She has experience developed by working in community activism, and in the process, has learned to build the types of coalitions needed to be an effective council representative for the 1st District. As a labor community organizer, Jacque has worked with the AFL-CIO and the California Teachers Association (CTA). Her work on behalf of these organizations helped to build coalitions within local communities and rally support for statewide initiatives and candidates. While at CTA, Jacque also worked as a law clerk where she developed a solid understanding of the issues facing our education system. Once elected, Jacque will continue to build coalitions between citizens and government. She shares the same vision for a better city and an efficient government able to tackle tough issues like increasing access to affordable housing and offering adequate financial support to the public school system. As a member of the city council, she will be a strong advocate for opening up the lines of communication between city council and all those who have a stake in the future of the City of Pasadena. Jacque has also worked on behalf of the AFL-CIO Voter Rights Protection Project, the Los Angeles Legal Aid Foundation Employment Law Clinic, the Los Angeles African American Women's Political Action Committee, and the Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles Inc. Jacque is a member of the Pasadena Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (a public service sorority) and Pasadena Branch NAACP. She has received numerous accolades and community service awards, including graduation from Senator Barack Obama's Hopefund Yes We Can Political Training Program and the Los Angeles African American Women's Public Policy Institute. Jacque is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley. |
