1. The American occupation in Iraq continues to be enormously costly in dollars and in lives. What is your position on how our government should proceed?
The Bush Administration policy in Iraq is a disaster. Since we have fulfilled our responsibility to allow for the formation of a new government, it is time to insist that Iraqis defend themselves. We should withdraw our troops as soon as practicable, consistent with the safety of our soldiers.2. What is your impression of the roll-out of the Medicare Prescription Drug program so far, and what changes would you propose to make it better?
Our seniors deserve much better. We should: - allow for the re-importation of less expensive drugs, which were developed in our own country. - allow the government to negotiate for the best prices. - lower the out-of-pocket costs to seniors.3. Where do you stand on the current balance between security and civil rights?
The Bush Administration has sanctioned an unnecessary erosion of civil rights. For example, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) gives the government extraordinary powers (which I support) in order to protect our national security. The Administration has ignored the reasonable limitations of FISA regarding the surveillance of American citizens.
