Grew up in Oneida, New York, and graduated from St. Bonaventure University (B.A., History, 1972) and from Albany Law School (J.D., 1975). Began private practice of law in Oneida, practicing principally in Madison, Onondaga and Oneida Counties. Areas of practice included criminal law, matrimonial and family law (including 12 years as a Family Court law guardian), real estate, wills and estates, business law, municipal law (city attorney for the City of Sherrill 1986-2001), trials and appeals. Member and Past President of the Madison County Bar Assn. Member and Past President of the Federation of Bar Associations of the Sixth Judicial District. Member of the NYS Women's Bar Association. Appointed by the Appellate Division of NYS Supreme Court to its Committee on Professional Standards (attorney grievance committee), 1996 - 2001, and appointed committee chairman, 2000-01. Appointed Madison County Judge in April, 2001, and elected to a ten-year term in that office, November, 2001. Appointed Acting Supreme Court Justice for the year 2006. Member of the Sixth Judicial District Committee on Gender Fairness. Married for 31 years and the father of two grown children. 30-year member and past president of the Oneida Rotary Club; Paul Harris Fellow; and member and past chairman of Rotary District 7150 Youth Exchange Committee. Madison-Cortland ARC President's Award (2001). Madison County Bar Assn. Community Service Award (2005). |
