1. The American occupation in Iraq continues to be enormously costly in dollars and in lives. What is your position on how our government should proceed?
I agree with Congressman John Murtha in a plan for a phased redeployment of our troops from Iraq. Our continued presence there, combined with incidents of torture, accidental bombing or shooting of innocent Iraqis, is turning our traditional friends around the world against us, aiding terrorism and threatening our security.2. What is your impression of the roll-out of the Medicare Prescription Drug program so far, and what changes would you propose to make it better?
Rather than continuing a system of give-a-ways to pharmaceutical companies, we need a plan that allows Medicare to negotiate for the lowest possible price to rein-in the skyrocketing costs of prescription drugs. The new Medicare prescription drug law was the wrong solution; it must be repealed and replaced.3. Where do you stand on the current balance between security and civil rights?
We need a national security plan that doesn't infringe on our democratic rights. The proposed expansion of the Patriot Act threatens our civil liberties. For example, unwarranted wire tapping, suspension of legal protections for suspected criminals and state sanctioned torture are unacceptable ways of securing America's families.
