Dear Morro Bay Voter,

It has been an honor to serve as your Mayor for the past two years. We have faced some difficult times, but through it all, I have kept our city on an even keel by making balanced decisions on complex issues, often as the "swing" vote.

I respect your priorities and value your input in making these decisions, which is why I hold weekly office hours, instigated town hall meetings, and approved forming ad hoc citizen committees to research and report on important issues.

I attend regular meetings with the other County mayors, and actively represent Morro Bay in Sacramento and Washington D.C. The positive and productive relationships that I have developed help to ensure that our city concerns are effectively presented at County, State and Federal levels.

While there are still challenges to meet, Morro Bay is moving forward. The Dollar Tree, which I assisted in bringing to Morro Bay, is thriving. The Galley and Miner's Hardware are just two of several commercial projects in the works. We are proceeding with our waterfront boardwalk, and considering a conference center facility that would unite the downtown and Embarcadero business areas and draw visitors year round.

You have a clear choice among the candidates for Mayor. My opponents are on opposite sides of Morro Bay's political spectrum, while I offer a stabilizing, moderate viewpoint. My decision to run was made independently and willingly, based only on my whole-hearted commitment to the welfare of our community. No one persuaded me to run, and therefore I owe no allegiance to anyone except you, the voters of Morro Bay.

You deserve a mayor with a proven track record...a mayor with the strength and integrity to consistently make balanced, un-biased decisions that serve the best interests of all our citizens. I have been that mayor for two years. With your support, and your vote, I will continue to serve you and our city for two more years.

Sincerely,

Janice

JANICE'S DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB OF MAYOR:

Being the Mayor takes as much time as you let it, and more.

It requires reading stacks of reports, attending hundreds of meetings, responding to a constant barrage of phone calls and e-mails, and diplomatically acting as liaison between businesses, visitors, residents, City Staff and the Council.

It changes every day, and there's usually at least one urgent issue per week.

It is challenging, rewarding, exhausting, gratifying, frustrating, and an incredible responsibility, often all at the same time.

It is being an active, integral part of our community family and constantly working to make life better for all of us.
