Economic Development and Bayview Hunters Point

By Rodney Hampton, Jr.

Candidate for Member, Board of Supervisors; County of San Francisco; Supervisorial District 10

This information is provided by the candidate
Rodney Hampton Jr. on the future of economic growth in Bayview Hunters Point
The Big Picture

Economic Development is a major issue for every single neighborhood in District 10. The question for me always comes down to two things: 1) How can we support local business growth and 2) How can we create more jobs? The answer to both these questions comes in pulling together to support people and the programs that support them. Economic Development is supporting and investing in people.

Local Business Growth

By supporting and promoting local programs such as The Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center, San Francisco Small Business Development Center, and the San Francisco Small Business Network, we give our residents the tools they need to be successful in the world of small business. Not everyone, however, knows these resources exist. We must be aggressive in promoting the resources and touting their effectiveness in empowering average citizens to become small business owners.

Jobs

Over the past five years I have been a driving force in helping District 10's residents get jobs. As a program director at Young Community Developers I helped hundreds of people get educated, get trained and become employable. As program director at Ella Hill Hutch Community Center I continue to lead the way in helping the underserved get the job training they need to become members of a vibrant and thriving workforce.

The Future

As your Supervisor I would continue to expand this model by supporting people from all different levels of education and experience. My goal is to see a community held up by information and choice. When we give people access to information we empower them to do whatever it is they want to do. Whether you want to start your own business, go back to school, or get the job training you need, I will be here to support you every step of the way.
