Fire Safety and Law Enforcement's ChoiceBy John W. MintoCandidate for Council Member; City of Santee | |

Public Safety: As a 26-year Police Officer, it is no wonder one of my top priorities is public safety. As your Councilman, I took over as chairman of the Community Policing Committee. Since taking over, I have sponsored and supported new laws that protect children from sexual predators, and prohibit the consumption of alcoholic beverages in certain parks. I created protocol for addressing transients creating a nuisance within our city. Traffic Issues: Like many of you, I am frustrated about traffic on our streets. The completion of State Route 52 is a requirement for an estimated 30% relief. That is why I supported Proposition A, the bond to fund building and completing freeways. The Cities poorly functioning traffic circulation is a major concern, and I am pushing for a comprehensive plan to make changes. Endorsed by the Santee Firefighters Association After experiencing the Cedar firestorm, I made it a priority to ensure our city continued to have the best trained and equipped fire department in San Diego County. Mayor Randy Voepel formed and appointed me to a disaster preparedness committee. With the Firefighters, new strategies were developed and are now being implemented in Santee. |
