Political Philosophy for Teresa A. Barth

Dear Encinitas Voter: I have been asked why I am willing to accept the many responsibilities, headaches, and pressures that go with being a city council member. Twenty years ago residents adopted a General Plan that recognized the special and distinctive character of our five communities and to provide a framework for future development that respects and enhances our communities. I want to see city government return to those principals and objectives. Many issues now are decided behind closed doors for the benefit of a few at the expense of the majority. Citizens are kept out of the decision-making process while the council relies on highly paid consultants and special interests to determine our future. Taxpayers are assured sales and property tax revenues are on the upswing. Yet they recently approved a 20 million dollar bond that commits Encinitas to generations of long-term debt. The recent defeats of local Propositions A and C, by significant margins, are proof that residents want change from business as usual. As your council representative I will insist on community sensitive development, prudent fiscal policies and sound environmental practices. I ask for your support. |
