My parents migrated from Mexico to Texas in 1920 after the Mexican Revolution. I was born in Texas in 1947 and then in 1957 we became a migrant family following the seasonal crops as farm workers in California until we finally decided to make San Jose our home in 1967.
Both my parents had a third grade education and didn,t speak english when they came to Texas. They were able to self learn to read and write in spanish and were good with numbers. They knew the value of an education and insisted that all their children were going to get an education. We always started our journey to California after the last day of school, and they always had us back in school on the first day. My dad,s famous quote, "Without an education, you will be stuck working like an animal in the farm fields using your muscle and back to make a living from sun up to sun down. An education will allow you the opportunity to pick and choose your profession where your knowledge will be your greatest asset." Always put GOD first for all your blessings, protect your country with your life if called for,and provide for your family likewise. Help others more needy than yourself and take full responsibility for your station in life.
