During Mayor Lupe Alvarez' first two years in office, the City of Guadalupe has had many positive changes for the betterment of its citizens; including the receipt over $5 million in grants!!!
PUBLIC SAFETY
- Three crossing guards along Highway 1
- Two full-time firefighters, in addition to a full-time fire chief (a first in Guadalupe history!)
- Four-way stop signs at Guadalupe St. and 11th St.
- Awarded $450,000 Safe Routes To School Grant
- Brand new police motorcycle
- Brand new emergency mobile command unit and truck
TRANSPORTATION
- Two brand new school buses for local children
- A brand new city transportation bus for public use with a second one on order
RECREATION
- Received $250,000 for improvements at O'Connell Park--including football and baseball fields, bleachers, scoreboards, sprinklers
- Mayor Alvarez has continued to provide financial support for the Boys and Girls' Club which allows the club to be open on Saturdays for children
INFRASTRUCTURE
- Built a 1.6 million gallon water storage tank
- Awarded $500,000 grant for new well
- Awarded $1.5 million grant for replacing old elevated water storage tank
- Awarded $1.5 million grant for replacing underground water main lines
TOURISM
- Hosted successful City's 60th Anniversary celebration and fireworks show
- Developed new city motto to promote tourism--"Guadalupe Gateway to the Dunes"
- Mayor Alvarez initiated and promoted the "Eat in Guadalupe" campaign
