MCDH Ambulance and Mendocino Coast Ambulance SupportBy John A. KermenCandidate for Board Member; Mendocino Coast Health Care District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
In order to meet the needs of the community, our goal must be to have two 24 hour ambulances. Our rural setting, weather restrictions for helicopters and our lack of certain services (e.g. cardiac catheterization, neurosurgery) make it necessary to transfer patients out of the area, which is expedited by having a locally based hospital ambulance. Our local fire chiefs have expressed the need for additional ambulance support due to the rising number of 911 emergency calls. Hopefully, the increased reimbursement for ambulance transfers due to Critical Access Designation combined with the MCAS membership program will help achieve this goal. I was part of the formation of Mendocino Coast Ambulance Support and currently serve as an advisor and fundraising committee chair. I have served over 5 years on the Board of the Mendocino Music Festival, and I developed one of the music festival's major fundraising events, Taste of Chocolate, Wine & Ale. I have taught airway management classes for the Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department. These activities have afforded me the opportunity to meet many of the community supporters of and contributors to the hospital, and the fundraising activities have provided an open communication with many local business owners. |
