Financial Future of MCDHBy John A. KermenCandidate for Board Member; Mendocino Coast Health Care District | |

Critical Access designation is crucial for the financial survival of the hospital, and its implementation will have to be closely monitored because it will bring decisions not predictable now. The new administrative structure implemented by the interim CEO has improved our financial outlook. This must be watched so that it doesn't quietly "grow" again under the radar. The Board must support and supervise the efforts of the upcoming fundraising initiative with Philanthropic Professionals, Inc. (PPI). We must continue to focus on our Billing practices and strive for improvement so that we may collect all that is due for services rendered. In addition to an interim CEO, there is a new "top level" of administration (CFO, Chief Patient Care Services). This has resulted in a palpable, positive change which is apparent within the hospital. The selection of a new CEO who will continue to lead MCDH in a positive direction is a very critical decision. The new Strategic Plan must be a more realistic representation of what we can accomplish at MCDH. I am encouraged that this will be an effort which includes Hospital Members (Board, Staff, Physicians) and Community Members. |
